Follow-ups

Follow-ups

Reminders to get back in touch, once or on a repeat

Follow-up or commitment?

A commitment is a job to finish. A follow-up is a nudge to talk to someone again. "Send the contract" is a commitment. "Check in with Maria about the move" is a follow-up.

The difference that matters: a follow-up can repeat. Finish one and Tagup creates the next.

Add one

Open the person, find Following Up On, and press the + button.

  • Title — required, up to 120 characters
  • Description — the detail, up to 1,024 characters
  • Follow-up date — when you want the reminder
  • Priority — Low, Med, or High, the same three as commitments

Make it repeat

Turn on Recurring follow-up in the form, then pick how often.

Other takes a cron expression. The five parts are minute, hour, day of month, month, and day of week.

0 9 * * 1 — every Monday at 9 in the morning
0 9 1 * * — the 1st of every month at 9
0 9 1 */3 * — the 1st of every third month at 9

Use this only when the three presets do not fit. For most people, "every month" is enough.

Work through the list

Mark one done — press the tick box. If it repeats, the next one appears at once, and it keeps the description and the priority.
Change or remove one — the three dots at the end of the row. A delete can be undone from the message that follows.
Badges — past due, due today, and due soon, the same three as commitments
Repeat mark — a cycle icon on a repeating item. One time on the others.

Everything in one list

My Organizer shows every follow-up from every person together, with the name beside each one. The Dashboard shows the counts.

Tips

  • • Set a repeat for the handful of people you must not lose touch with. Monthly for the closest, every three months for the rest.
  • • Write the title as the question you want to ask. "Ask Kenji how the launch went" beats "Kenji".
  • • A repeating follow-up you keep pushing back is telling you something. Change the period or drop it.
