Getting around
Which page opens when I sign in?
The Conversation Hub. To go somewhere else, press another icon in the left rail. The Dashboard is the third icon down. See Getting Around.
Where are Settings, Account, and Billing?
Press your avatar at the bottom of the left rail. The user menu holds Account & Profile, Billing & Subscription, Recording Consent, Settings, and Log out. It also shows your plan and how much of your AI credits and storage you have used.
What is the fastest way to find something?
Press Ctrl+K on Windows and Linux, or ⌘K on a Mac. Global Search opens on any page. It matches meaning, not letters, so type a phrase such as "who promised me an introduction". See Global Search.
Can I use Tagup Pro on my phone?
Yes. Open the app in the browser on your phone. The same account works on a phone, a tablet, and a computer.
On a phone the rail gets a People button, because there is no room for the people list beside the page. Your browser can also add Tagup Pro to your home screen as an app.
How do I switch between the light and the dark look?
Press the theme button at the bottom of the left rail. Your browser remembers the choice. The switch is not in Settings.
How do I get more room on the page?
Press the sidebar button at the left end of the header. It hides the rail and the people list. Press it again to show them.
How do I contact support?
Press Help & Support at the bottom of the left rail. The same menu holds the Privacy Policy, the Terms of Service, and the version of the app you are using.
People
What do I need to add a person?
A first name and a last name. Those are the only required fields. Press + in the left rail, type the two names, and save. Add the rest later with Edit Person.
How many people can I add?
Starter holds 20 contacts. Pro has no limit. The free trial runs on Starter, so the limit of 20 applies during the trial too.
To go past 20, upgrade to Pro, or delete a contact you no longer need. See Billing & Subscription.
Can I import my contacts from a file?
There is no import button. The Conversation Hub does the job:
- Attach the file with the paper clip in the Hub. A CSV file, a spreadsheet, or a photo of a business card works.
- Ask the Hub to add the people in it.
- Read each contact card, then confirm it or dismiss it.
Nothing is saved until you confirm a card. Each new contact counts against the limit of your plan.
How do I get a copy of everything I have on one person?
Open the person, press the three dots, and pick Export Person. Tagup downloads one file with everything you have on that person.
Why does a profile show a time?
It is the time where that person is now. It appears when the profile has a time zone. In the form, pick the country first, because the country narrows the time zone list.
How do I hide a section, such as Notes, for one person?
Open the person, press the three dots, and clear the tick beside Tasks, Follow-ups, or Notes. To choose the sections that a new person starts with, go to Settings and use New Person Defaults.
What happens when I delete a person?
Tagup removes the contact and everything filed under them. You cannot undo it. If you want a copy, use Export Person first.
Which pictures can I use?
SVG, PNG, JPG, or GIF, up to 2 MB. This is the same for a contact and for your own account. With no picture, Tagup shows the initials.
Tagups, commitments, and follow-ups
Should I write a tagup, a note, a commitment, or a follow-up?
- Tagup — one conversation on one date: a meeting, a call, or a message
- Note — what is true about the person on any day: how they like to work, what they care about
- Commitment — a thing you promised to do, with a due date
- Follow-up — a reminder to talk to someone again. It can repeat.
Why is a conversation missing from the timeline?
Check two things:
- The Show events for range in the header. Set it to All Time.
- The page numbers at the bottom of the Tagups section. Older conversations are on the next pages.
Where did a completed commitment go?
Tagup hides completed items. To show them, press the three dots on the section heading. Tagup keeps that choice for each person.
I deleted a task by mistake. Can I get it back?
Yes, if you are quick. After a delete, a message offers to undo it. Press undo before the message closes. This works for commitments and follow-ups.
How do I make a follow-up repeat?
Turn on Recurring follow-up in the form, then pick how often. When you mark a repeating follow-up done, Tagup creates the next one at once. For a pattern that the presets do not cover, pick Other and type a cron expression. See Follow-ups.
What do the due-date badges mean?
- Past due — the date has gone
- Due today — the date is today
- Due soon — the date is in the next 3 days
Where do I see everything that is due?
In My Organizer. It lists every open commitment and follow-up from every person, with the name beside each one. The Dashboard shows the same items as counts.
Where do I put a task that belongs to nobody else?
In Personal Tasks, in My Organizer. The same page has Personal Notes for notes about your own plans.
How long can a title be?
The title of a commitment or a follow-up can be 120 characters. The description can be 1,024 characters.
Recording and transcripts
Does Tagup record on its own?
No. Tagup records only when you press the record button. It never starts a recording by itself.
Can Tagup record a phone call or a video call?
Tagup records your microphone, so it hears what is in the room. It does not get the other side of a call from your headset. For a call, use your speaker, or put the microphone where it hears both of you.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 2 hours. Transcription uses AI credits, so a long recording uses more of them. If your credits run out while you record, the recording stops.
Can I play back the audio?
No. Tagup deletes the audio after it writes the transcript. You keep the transcript, but you cannot play or download the sound.
Why is there no record button in the tagup form?
Your consent setting needs permission from this contact, and Tagup has none on file. The form shows a notice in place of the button. From the notice you can:
- Send a consent request to the contact
- State that you already have their permission
- Set the location of the contact, if it is missing
Your notes stay in the form. See Recording Consent.
A short recording disappeared. Why?
Tagup drops a recording shorter than 1 second. This stops an accidental tap from making an empty transcript.
What is the difference between recording and dictation?
- Recording — captures a conversation. Tagup attaches a transcript with speaker labels to the tagup.
- Dictation — types your words where your cursor is. Nothing is attached or kept. Consent never blocks it, because only your voice is in it.
Where do I find a transcript?
Open the tagup in the timeline of the person. The transcript opens in a panel with the speaker labels. Transcripts are not on the Artifacts page. Global Search looks through them too.
Can I delete a transcript and keep the tagup?
Yes. Open the transcript and press Delete transcript. The tagup and your notes stay.
What does Smart Notes do?
It writes a short summary from the transcript and the notes you typed. The summary goes into the notes field, so you can change it before you save. On an empty tagup the same button is Smart Agenda, which drafts topics for your next meeting. See Recording & Transcripts.
Conversation Hub
Can the Hub change my records without me?
No. When the Hub wants to create, change, or delete something, it shows a card. Nothing is saved until you confirm the card. A deletion asks twice.
Should I use Fast, Balanced, or Max?
Use Balanced. It is the default, and it is right for almost every question. Fast and Balanced cost the same. Max costs twice the credits, so use it only when an answer comes back thin or the question spans many people.
How do I make sure the Hub knows which person I mean?
Type @ and pick the person from the list. If a name you type matches two contacts, the Hub does not guess. It asks you to choose.
How do I go back to an earlier conversation?
Open History in the right panel and press the conversation. You can carry on where you stopped.
What is the line across a long conversation?
When a thread gets long, the Hub summarizes the earlier part and marks the place with a line. Press the line to read the summary. Nothing is lost.
What happens when I delete a Hub conversation?
Tagup removes the conversation. It also removes the voice notes and the files that belong only to that conversation. Records you confirmed from its cards, such as tagups and tasks, stay.
Consent and sharing
Does Tagup ask my contacts before I record them?
By default, yes. The default setting is Always ask. You can change it in Settings, under Recording & Transcription Consent.
You are responsible for the recordings you make. The setting is not legal advice.
Why can I not send a consent request?
- The contact has no email address. Add one with Edit Person.
- You asked less than 1 hour ago. The button shows how long is left.
Does my contact need a Tagup account to answer?
No. Tagup emails them a private link. They answer on that page, and they do not have to sign in.
How long does an approval last?
12 months at the time of writing. Tagup shows the end date and warns you before it comes, in the place where you record.
Does Tagup send transcripts to my contacts?
No. Nothing leaves your account on its own. You share one conversation at a time, from the three dots on the tagup row. Your notes stay out unless you turn on Include your notes in that dialog. See Sharing a Transcript.
Who can see my records?
Only you. Tagup has no shared workspace. A contact sees a conversation only when you share it with them.
Somebody asked to record me. Where do I answer?
Open the user menu and press Recording Consent, or use the link in the email. Both open the same list. You can change your answer at any time. See Recording Consent.
Files and storage
What counts against my storage?
Every file on the Artifacts page: files you attach to a contact, files you attach in the Hub, and files the Hub saved for you. Starter has 5 GB. Pro has 25 GB.
Recordings do not count, because Tagup deletes the audio after transcription.
Which files can I upload?
- Documents — PDF, Word, Excel, text, Markdown, CSV, and HTML
- Images — JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP
- Media — MP3 and MP4
- Archives — ZIP
How do I free up storage?
Open Artifacts and sort by Largest. Delete the files you no longer need. A deleted file cannot be recovered, so download it first if you want to keep a copy.
Plans, credits, and your account
What uses AI credits?
- Transcription — the biggest user of credits
- Conversation Hub — each answer
- Smart Notes and Smart Agenda — each time you run one
- Global Search — a small amount for each search
When do my credits reset?
At the start of each billing month. Credits you do not use do not carry over. Starter gets 500 each month. Pro gets 2,000.
Where do I see how many credits I have left?
In the user menu, and at the top of the Billing page. The AI Usage tab on the Billing page shows which feature used them.
What does the free trial include?
The trial lasts 7 days and runs on Starter. You get every feature, with the Starter limits. You do not need a card to start.
What happens if my plan ends?
When you cancel, you keep full access until the end of the period you paid for. After that, or when a free trial ends, the account becomes read-only for 30 days. A banner appears across the app.
In those 30 days you can still read everything, export a person, download your files, and delete what you no longer want. Recording, transcription, the Hub, file uploads, and new contacts stop. Subscribe again and they come back.
If you do not subscribe again within 30 days, Tagup deletes the account and everything in it. You cannot undo this. Export what you want to keep before the 30 days end.
How do I change my plan or my card, or cancel?
Open Billing and press Manage Subscription. The payment portal opens in a new tab. There you can change your card, change your plan, download an invoice, or cancel. A move to a smaller plan starts at the end of the period you paid for.
How do I delete my account?
Cancel your subscription. There is no separate step. The account becomes read-only when the paid period ends, and Tagup deletes it 30 days after that. To keep a copy of a person, use Export Person before then.
I forgot my password. What do I do?
On the sign-in page, press Forgot your password?. Type your email address, and Tagup sends you a code to set a new password.
What are the rules for a password?
At least 8 characters, with a capital letter, a small letter, a number, and a symbol. To change it, open Account.
How do I change the date format or use a 24-hour clock?
Open Settings and use Date & Time Preferences. The change applies everywhere in the app.
Questions before you sign up
